Y STRAP Decompression in Torrance CA

Chiropractic Torrance CA Y Strap Decompression

Traditional chiropractic adjustments usually involve hands-on manipulation. At times, specialized tools such as the Y strap can also be used to perform a chiropractic manipulation. The Y strap is a decompression tool that tractions the spine by gently stretching it along the Y axis. It consists of a strap and bar that comfortably cradles the patient’s head. Like hands-on spinal decompression, the Y strap works to decompress the vertebrae in a similar manner.

THE PROCESS

Most chiropractic adjustments take place along the X, Y, and Z axes of the body. The Y strap decompresses the spine along the Y axis, hence the name. It provides more of a traction and distraction compared to manual rotational spinal adjustments. This is why some patients prefer the Y strap over traditional hands-on rotational adjustments.

Our chiropractors always perform soft tissue therapy prior to any chiropractic manipulation in order to break up scar tissue and adequately warm up the joints and surrounding musculature. Prior to the Y strap adjustment, you will receive soft tissue therapy to ensure your muscles and joints are properly warmed up, to allow for a smoother and more comfortable adjustment. Most patients report stating the Y strap adjustment was much more comfortable than they had imagined and are often pleasantly surprised at the immediate relief they feel.

Is it Safe?

When used by a licensed chiropractor with extensive training, the Y strap can be a safe and effective tool for spinal decompression. Many patients have seen videos of Y strap adjustments that tend to show an aggressive nature, creating a misperception of the procedure. The Y strap adjustment is not always performed aggressively nor is it necessary to achieve the desired outcome. The Y strap adjustment can be performed in varying degrees of strength, depending on the judgment of the treating provider.

However, similar to traditional forms of chiropractic adjustments, there are specific cases where a Y strap adjustment would be contraindicated. Therefore, it is not a good idea to buy a Y strap to use at home or allow anyone other than a licensed chiropractor to perform this procedure.
